Product Review: Silicon Mix

Hello curlies!

So as you all know, my hair is about 95% relaxed as of right now because I am brand new to transitioning and only about a month and a half into my transition. I previously had no intention of going natural since relaxers were all I knew so, naturally, I was looking for a product to "mend" my dry, damaged, over processed, relaxed hair.

My review today is on a product named 'Silicon Mix'. I recently bought this with the intention of using it on my relaxed hair so now that I am transitioning, I can do a product review on how I feel it works on both natural and relaxed hair as well.

Below are reviews of the set I bought online. The only thing missing is the shampoo which I refused to buy due to the sulfuric contents. Sulfur can be very damaging to the hair. I try to steer clear of any sulfates as they are proven to be extremely drying to the hair, especially if you have fine hair like I do.

[1]The Conditioner:

This conditioner got nothing but amazing reviews, mostly by people with relaxed hair.

Honestly, I don't see what the big deal was. This conditioner left my relaxed hair feeling dry still even after an hour of leaving it on with a plastic cap. It feels okay as you begin rinsing, however, it all just rinses out after a while! It leaves me to believe that this conditioner does not penetrate the hair at all.

As far as my natural hair, I had the same effect. There was little, to no penetration. My natural hair seems to be capable of holding more moisture than my relaxed hair so I'm sure that this conditioner is not doing anything special. Of course, my natural hair is just a lot healthier than my relaxed hair so I know it has nothing to do with the conditioner.

Other Information:
* Smell: Decent
* Texture: Fairly Creamy

[2] The Leave-In Conditioner:

ATTENTION TRANSITIONERS: this leave-in conditioner is exactly what you need! It gives my hair so much "slip" that I can actually run a comb through it if I need to. This is the perfect detangling agent for transitioning hair. I would definitely recommend this leave-in to anybody I know.

The downfall is that this product contains silicones which are said to coat the hair leaving it sealed off and unable to "breathe". My way around this (and don't quote me because I am no hair expert) is by putting on a little bit of my Cantu leave-in hair conditioner first to penetrate my hair and then I seal it with this stuff. It leaves my hair feeling amazing when it's dry as well and works great on both my new growth as well as my relaxed hair.

Other Information:
* Smell: Decent
*Texture: Not too creamy but not too watery

[3] Hair Polisher
This product works okay. It does leave both my relaxed hair and natural hair feeling very soft and looking shiny. It is a good product but not a need to have product. If you are into glosses and shines then I would certainly recommend this product to you because it serves its purpose well but I have always had this feeling like glosses aren't really that necessary. Usually I only use glosses if I really want that extra shine with certain styles and this product does come in handy.

Good product. Not a necessary product though. It's mostly for aesthetic purposes. It won't hurt your hair at all but i'm not sure that it improves it either. It has some pretty good ingredients though, so I say go for it if you need that extra kick while styling during your transition.

Other Information:
* Smell: Good
* Texture: Glossy

That's all for now curlies! I will be posting pictures of my own progress very soon so stay tuned!

Update

Okay curlies!

So my blog description says that I will be posting my own hair progress and... so it is written so it shall be done. However... that would probably require me actually taking photos right? Well I've been slacking and I know it. So I will be posting a picture of my growth progress tomorrow! So stay tuned!

In the meantime, go check out Curly Nikki's page and get some more information and pointers! I never get enough of her site! It's where I get all of my hair tips from (and everything else for that matter). So go now!

Fall Into Fashion!: My Fall Pallet Inspirations

Hello curlies!

Okay so anyone that knows me knows that I am NO fashionista, but I do know what I like.  These are just a few inspirations of mine for the upcoming Fall season.

Now, I did not take these pictures, nor do I take credit for them.

In fact, I got them off of Pinterest.com. It's a virtual idea board where you can get pictures from the web and make your own themed boards for, well, pretty much anything you want. Kinda like idea boards! I am addicted to this website just because it has so many cool things on it like DIY's and beautiful art. Check it out for yourself. I've posted the link below. It's great inspiration for any of you artistic and crafty curlies out there like myself.

In the meantime, check out my Fall pallet inspirations:

Colorful bracelets?! Count me in please. There are no DIY instructions for this one though :(. But I promise that as soon as I figure out how to make these I will post the instructions!

Everything about this outfit is me. From top to bottom. Equestrian look= Awesome.

For some reason I fell in love with this nail color. It's really cute and not too loud. If you're anything like me you love neutral tones. I seem to be drawn to them and they look great with my skin tone. I think neutrals look great on women of color. Brighter colors I suggest are tones of yellows, blues, and greens.

The yellow bag got me. And I absolutely love the print on the scarf with the fringe.
I'll take these in every color please! Flats are so comfortable and still elegant. What more could a girl ask for?

Yes. Absolutely. This bag= Gorgeous

As much as I love neutrals, i'm not a fan of gray. It makes me look very dull and not as bright. However, the cut of the shirt paired with the hat and jewelry is fantastic. It's amazing what a little accessorizing can do!

I love this hat. Hats are a great way to go when you really don't have time to tame your curls. Sometimes your hair needs a break too. So throw on a cute hat and... voilà! Cuteness. And you can still show your curls off if you have longer hair.

First off, yellow is my favorite color. It's just so... happy. As cheesy as this sounds, if happiness was a color, it would definitely be yellow! Anyways, I like the simplicity of the dress. I'm not in love with the colors but this look can easily be manipulated with any cute skirt that's long enough.

Like I said before, none of these pictures are me, were taken by me, nor do I take any credit for them. They are simply my inspirations. I will be posting pictures of my own look for fall as soon as I stop hitting the books and get a chance to do a little shopping!

Oh yeah, here is the link I promised you!

So curlies, what does your Fall pallet look like? Do you have any inspiration pictures? What will you be wearing this upcoming season (if you're not already wearing it!)? Let me know!

Love Peace,

Natural Hair Meet Group!

Hello fellow curlies!

So i'm excited to announce that i've recently found a Natural Hair meet group that inspires and educates women that are natural or in the process of going natural on how to properly care for their hair.

I really encourage anyone that is trying to go natural to get involved in something like this because it can really help boost your confidence and change your entire perspective on going natural. It is extremely educational for people like me who are very new to the natural hair community. Not to mention, it's great to have a positive support system.

I live in a small town and there is a meet group here, however, it doesn't have as big of a group base as I would like. *The larger the group the more diversity*. So I decided to join one in a major city nearest me in Raleigh, NC.

There are some fees that you may have to pay, however they really aren't very expensive maybe $1 to $5 here and there. (A very small cost to pay when you think about how much you can learn from these group meets)

Just giving my fellow transitioners out there something to think about and some options on their natural hair journey.

Thant's all for now!

          Love & Peace,

Q & A

Hello fellow curlies! Here are some questions that I've answered about my regimen, my reason for going natural and more. Check it out!

Q: Which hair products do you enjoy using?

A. Well, I am a transitioner at the moment. I just decided to stop relaxing my hair about a month and a half ago so the products I use as of right now are mainly things that add ton of moisture and "slip" to my hair so that I can easily detangle the two textures. My regimen consists of:
Silicon Mix (Conditioner, Leave-In Conditioner, Gloss/Shine)
Cantu Leave-in Conditioner
Water Mixed with Creme of Nature Conditioner (for styling)
Coconut Oil
I know that Silicon Mix probably isn't the best since the leave in condition contains silicones which I've heard can coat the hair, however it makes my hair feel like silk! It also contains Keratin which makes hair stronger so i guess that counts for something. I can detangle when my hair is wet with no problem with the Silicon mix leave in conditioner on (product review soon to come). I do plan on switching regimens when I do my big chop or when I grow my natural hair out more. I'm just not sure what to use yet.

Q: How long have you been natural?

A: Only a little over a month now! I still have relaxed hair and I plan on doing a long term transition (maybe a year or so). But my natural hair grows so fast I have no idea how long I can hold out from doing my big chop!

Q: What inspired you to wear your hair in its natural state?

A: My mother put a relaxer in my hair at the ripe age of 1 because "it was too hard to manage". With her being a single mother I am not mad at her for doing what she did but I wish that I would have grown up knowing that I don't have "bad hair". My natural hair is growing in beautifully and it's sad to know that my whole life I've been exposed to the fact that "straight is beautiful". I am tired of using chemicals on my hair to make it look like what it's not. White women don't use chemicals on their hair to make it look differently (usually). Why should we? It is not proven that our hair cannot grow long like a white woman or indian woman or any other race's hair for that matter. It's just that black women use so many chemicals in their hair that it breaks faster than it grows so we can't retain any length. I will not torture my hair anymore. No more "no-lye" for me!
